Regular Activities
• ROMANIAN EVENINGS - on the occasion of the National Day of Romania on the 1st of December an annual buffet - ball is organized. Romanian folk music
and dance ensembles (“Rapsozii Carpatilor”, the student group “Doina”), folk music singers (Marius Teicu) were invited by the Society. These evenings - twelve so far - have always
been held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of Cyprus and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture have at times sponsored us. For the artists transport
we are very much indebted to the Agency “New Marathon Tours”, whose Director, Mr. Emilios Thoma is the Honorary Consul of Romania in Cyprus. These evenings have always been
honored by the presence of personalities of the political and cultural life of Cyprus and are greatly appreciated by the Romanian community who turn out in mass.
• MARTISOR - this traditional day, celebrated at the beginning of March is an opportunity to meet and socialize at a café. The Romanian Society Committee offers the traditional
martisoare to all members. The festivity is held annually in Nicosia and Limassol.
• CHILDREN’S DAY - celebrated on the 1st of June. The Committee organizes an afternoon of Romanian Traditional games, children’s rhymes, songs, competitions, races and other
amusing activities which are held in a park. All children of Romanian origin are invited and they are offered sweets and toys by the Society Committee.
• THE CHRISTMAS TREE - a cultural and traditional festivity held before Christmas where all children of Romanian origins are invited. There is usually a program of traditional carols,
sung by the Society Choir conducted by Father Matei, and also “Capra” and “Plugusorul”. The Society Committee offers every child a Christmas present handed over b a “real”
Santa Claus. The festivity is held both in Nicosia and Limassol.
